The two pillars are the remains of eroded Middle Jurassic Entrada Sandstone. This formation was deposited during the Jurassic period between 180 and 140 million years ago. 
The pillars were formed with layers of sandstone, schist, and siltstone.
I Have passed by this interesting formation many times over the years. In 1969, on my first journey to the west, changed a flat tire at this site..
