Juried into the WOW show
WIDE OPEN WHATEVER
(show runs thru February 27th)

Core's highly anticipated, exceptional annual, the WOW Show opens with artwork from local painters, sculptors, photographers and mixed media artists. The Wide Open Whatever show is a venue for first time artists to exhibit their creations and for established artists to show recent experiments. It is in fact the Wide Open Whatever, and lives up to its name.

CORE was started in a vacant building with no heat or running water located on upper 15th Street. In 1981, the original owner decided that running an art gallery was not in his future and he offered the space to a four local

artists to run as a cooperative gallery, an alternative to "commercial" galleries. There were very few galleries in Denver at this time, and even fewer that exhibited local talent. The CORE name was retained to avoid reworking the lease arrangement, but the "New Art Space" was added for differentiation. The following year, both Pirate and CORE who jointly occupied the upper 15th Street premises were faced with eviction. CORE moved to 32nd Avenue just off Tejon Street. Gallery membership was increased to nine members with two associates. It was at this time that CORE's trademark Wide Open Whatever, or WOW, show was established.

Over the past thirty years, CORE has hosted dozens of exhibits including hundreds of artists and has literally displayed thousands of pieces of artwork. CORE continues its reputation for being a serious non-profit, cooperative art gallery that is dedicated to providing artists and the community with an alternative venue. The WOW Show is the most eclectic exhibition presented by CORE, or any other Denver gallery, so it remains an event not to be missed.
